Explore Egypt’s Islamic history alongside its Christian history on a day tour in Cairo. The tour includes visits to Salah El Din Citadel, Mohamed Ali Alabaster Mosque inside the castle’s walls, Coptic Cairo and Khan El Khalili Bazaar.
Your tour guide will pick you up from your hotel to start your tour visiting the huge castle known as Saladin Citadel ” the castle of Salah El-Dien” that was built in 1183 A.D on El Moqattam hills to defend Cairo from the attacks of Crusaders. Inside the walls of the citadel, you will be able to visit the alabaster mosque of Mohamed Ali. It is the most beautiful mosque in Egypt. The owner of the mosque is Mohamed Ali who was the ruler of Egypt for over 45 years (1805-1849) and his tomb is still inside the mosque. From the outside of the mosque you can have a panoramic view for Cairo and take some nice pictures.
Lunch will be served in a good quality local restaurant. Then continue your tour to visit Old Cairo or the so-called Coptic Cairo where you will visit the Hanging church and the church of St Serguis and Bacchus. Then move on to Ben Ezra synagogue that is believed to be the same place where the Pharaoh’s daughter found Moses in the reeds at the Nile River.
Then continue to visit Khan El Khalili Bazaar which is the oldest one in the Middle East and it famous for having many shops known for trading fine silver, gold, perfumes, copper, leather, antiques, brassware and much more. At the end of the day tour you will be back to your hotel and overnight in Cairo.
